OUR PROGRAMS

WEEKLY WRITERS GROUP

Our weekly writers group for playwrights, composers, lyricists and bookwriters is the foundation of MIAMI NEW MUSICALS/PLAYS ON PURPOSE. In a collaborative environment, writers receive detailed and supportive feedback on their work. Brief seminars on various aspects of craft are often included in the evening. We currently meet Tuesday evenings from 7:15pm - 9:45 pm at MAD Performing Arts in North Miami (excluding holiday breaks), and Wednesdays at FAU/Boca Raton on Wednesdays from 7-9 pm.

WORKSHOPS

When ready, musicals and plays in progress move to the next step of a workshop situation - a week or two of rehearsals followed by a few performances so that the writers can see what works and what needs revisions. Open to the public.

Mini-MUSICAL/SHort PLAY MARATHONS

Miami New Musicals/Plays on Purpose presents evenings of short-form musicals and plays to the public during the theatrical season. These musicals and plays come out of the writers group and utilize members of the collective (directors, musical directors, stage managers, choreographers, etc.)

READINGS OF NEW WORK

When ready, musicals and plays move to the next step of an informal reading so that the collaborative team can receive valuable feedback. These readings can be informal table reads, a single act of a musical in progress, up to staged readings. Staged readings will be open to the public.

SALONS AND SEMINARS

From time to time, salons for musical theatre writers to debut a new song will be offered. Seminars in writing for musical theatre - lyrics, book, or music - will be offered on an occasional basis. Other seminars pertinent to musical theatre artists and writers will be offered as well.
