Miami New Musicals @MAD (Arianna Rose, Artistic Director/Cherilyn Marrocco, Producing Director) is presenting a reading of “Musical Minis: Short-form Musicals by South Florida Playwrights” on Monday, August 5th, as part of the South Florida Theatre League’s Summer Theatre Fest. These readings are free and open to the public.
Miami New Musicals@MAD is looking for male and female musical theatre performers for the musicals listed below. We are also looking for a stage manager.
1. R.SV.P. (musical comedy farce)
Book by Donna Warfield, Lyrics by Arianna Rose, Music by Aden Kent Ramsey
Director: Arianna Rose
Cast: 2 m, 2 f
GINA: early 30’s, Italian, hot temper. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Mezzo/alto belt.
MONA: 60’s, Italian, Gena’s mom. Not someone to be fooled with. Alto.
TONY: early 30’s, Italian, Gena’s ex-husband. A real ladies Man. Tenor.
FLOYD: late 30’s, big strapping cowboy, a man of few words and good manners. Enjoys tipping his white cowboy hat; possibly wears chaps and talks with a twang. He doesn’t go anywhere without his horse or his cowboy theme song, which follows him everywhere. Baritenor.
2. THE SPOT - (musical fantasy)
Book and Lyrics by Bruce Karp, Music by Boram Han
Director: Marj O'Neill-Butler
Cast: 2 f, 2 m
MOLLY: 60s- 80's, mentally sharp, physically failing. Talks to the trees, which she's "known" since childhood. Mezzo
FEMALE TREE: 40+, (tree's age 80s), a kinder, gentler tree. Alto
MALE TREE: 40+ (tree's age 80s) , a bit gruff around the edges. Baritone
MEL: Molly's son, mid- 45 - 50, too involved with his work and cell phone, listens to but doesn't hear what Molly needs. Tenor
3. 0% Chance of Visibility (musical comedy)

ELENA: 60’s, adventuresome, mature woman, slightly overweight. Alto belt.
LORNA: 60’s, Elena’s friend, a bit timid in her life. Mezzo/alto belt.

KAREN: 30’s, suffers from social anxiety disorder and agoraphobia, loves science fiction fantasy and Battlestar Galactica, voice range mezzo/alto belt
GRACIE: 60’s, therapist, kind. NON-SINGING ROLE
GALLACTICA GIRL 1: any age, soprano, exists in Karen’s imagination
GALLACTICA GIRL 2: any age, mezzo, exists in Karen’s imagination

JANE DARLING ANDERSON*: 9 years old, daughter of Wendy Darling. Mezzo.

WENDY DARLING ANDERSON: 38, warm, a recent grieving widow, mother to Jane. Searching for meaning in her life. Soprano.
MURIEL MATTERS: 20’s, Australian suffrage leader. Charismatic, a born leader and communicator. Alto Belt.
SYLVIA PANKHURST: 30s, a leader in the British suffrage movement. Confident. Mezzo.
MAISIE GREEN: 20’s, suffragette. Timid. Mezzo.
LIZZIE BERRIDGE: 20s, suffragette, outspoken, angry. Mezzo/alto.

**Please note the black box space at MAD Performing Arts is on the second floor, only accessible by a set of stairs.**
FIRST VOCAL REHEARSALS (Please keep these dates and times open as each show will have a 2-3 hour block of rehearsal on either Saturday or Sunday):
Saturday, June 29 12 – 6 pm Note: each show will have between 2 to 3 hours for a vocal rehearsal. Which shows and exact time frame to be determined after auditions end on Friday night. Please keep this time free.
Sunday, June 30 12 – 6 pm Note: each show will have between 2 to 3 hours for a vocal rehearsal. Which shows and exact time frame to be determined after auditions end on Friday night. Please keep this time free.
Rehearsals will be a combination of evenings and some weekend time at MAD Performing Arts. The director for each piece will work out a rehearsal schedule based on the needs of the piece and the actor conflicts written on the audition sheet (provided at auditions).
Please keep the weekend (daytime hours Sat/Sun) of August 3-4 free for final run-throughs.
Reading is Monday, August 5, at 8 pm. Actor call 6:30 pm.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
- 1 hard copy of headshot and resume.
- a 1-minute song excerpt track from the musical theatre canon. Note: There is no accompanist at these auditions. Please bring your track on a CD, flash drive, or on your phone to connect to the speaker at MAD. Please note there is no internet or wifi access at MAD.
HOW TO SCHEDULE AN AUDITION:
- Email email@example.com to reserve a space for those audition evenings. Indicate which evening (Thursday June 27th and Friday June 28th) you can attend auditions. Please also confirm your availability for the vocal rehearsals the weekend of Saturday June 29-30 as listed above.
We ask everyone to arrive for a 7:30 pm start – we will sing everyone first, then hand out sides to read. Please email your headshot and resume as an attachment when you request an audition so that it can be sent to all the directors/writers.
